WEST BARNSTABLE – Two dozen students in the YMCA Cape Cod Achievers Program have received new computers.

The Google Chrome Books were awarded to the 24 students or recent graduates of Barnstable High School.

The students will use the Chrome Books for high school academic work, preparing for college or completing college course work.

The Y Achievers Program is a youth development program for teens that focuses on post-secondary education and career exploration.

The program provides students with caring, responsible adult role models and the skills and confidence to develop goals and a plan for life beyond high school. Y Achievers are the first in their families to go onto post-secondary education.

As a Youth Development Program at the YMCA Cape Cod, this program is supported entirely through contributions from local corporations and foundations. The Chrome Books were received as a result of a grant awarded by the Mass Networks Education Partnership, Inc.

This year’s graduates have each successfully been accepted to the following schools: Central Connecticut State University, Cape Cod Community College, Johnson & Whales, UMass Amherst, Marymount University, University of Connecticut, UMass Boston, Bridgewater State University, UMass Dartmouth, Emanuel College, and the US Marine Corps.
