Your Fishing Forecast for the Weekend of August 20th and 21st

Surfcasters have had some good luck on Nauset, Marconi, and Coast Guard Beach recently as stripers in the 20-pound class have chased schools of bunker into the surf. Beach fishermen have also had good luck targeting bluefish at first light on Race Point.

The Cape Cod Canal has been fishing well as large schools of peanut bunker have moved in. Most of the stripers are on the small side, but a few big ones, including a 50-pounder, have been taken.

Boat fishermen continue to have success fishing live eels in Cape Cod Bay. Chunking bunker has been working well for boat fishermen off Squibnocket, and vertical jigging is producing nice stripers off Chatham.

A plume of very warm water has pushed the bluefin out of the Dump and the areas south of the Vineyard, but in their place, mahi and white marlin have moved in. East of Chatham, boats trolling have been connecting with a few very large tuna up to 90 inches long.

Bonito fishing has been hot and cold at the Hooter. Bonito Bar seems to be a little more consistent, but the fishing isn’t what it should be for this time of year. A few false albacore have been reported off Centerville, Falmouth, and the Hooter.
