YPD to Activate Operation Safe Ride Home on New Year’s Eve

YARMOUTH – Yarmouth Police are activating Operation Safe Ride Home on New Year’s Eve.

From 6 p.m. on Saturday to 3 a.m. on Sunday, any citizen who needs a free ride home from a Yarmouth licensed liquor establishment can call Town Taxi directly.

“We know that it’s a night to celebrate and this is a way to get home safely,” said Yarmouth Deputy Police Chief Steven Xiarhos. “It’s something we do every year.”

Police are asking drivers to look out for each other and not to let others drive drunk.

Additional police officers will be on patrol all night and are encouraging citizens to take advantage of the program.

“Call them directly and they pick the person up and bring them home,” said Xiarhos. “The cost of that, we pay, through donations and all we get really is a bill with how many rides and how much it costs. We’re not concerned on who the people are we just want to get them home safe.”

Those interested in the program on New Year’s Eve, can contact Town Taxi at 508-775-5555.
