AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL: Barnstable Post 206 Stymies Sandwich Post 188

COTUIT – The Barnstable Post 206 American Legion baseball team downed the first place Sandwich Post 188 (12-5) team last night at Lowell Park, 8-2, thanks in large part to the complete-game performance from righty Jake Gleason.

Gleason struck out five, scattered six hits and walked three while needing just 83 pitches in his seven-inning gem. Post 188’s Nick Couhig took the loss.

Barnstable went up 1-0 in the second inning after a Mike Knell leadoff single, a walk to Jackson Badot, a sacrifice bunt from Eric Holzman and a clutch RBI-single from Bobby Higgins.

Post 206’s Gary DiSarcina Jr. hammered a clutch, two-run double in the fifth inning to make it 3-0 and Jackson Badot’s two-run double in the 7th proved to be the backbreaker.

Higgins went 3-4 on the day with two RBI and two stolen bases and DiSarcina went 1-3 with two RBI. Badot went 2-3 with three RBI to help lead the Post 206 hitting attack.

Barnstable Post 206 (11-6) takes on Pembroke Post 143 and Hanover Post 149 in a doubleheader tonight at McKeon Park in Hyannis. Post 206 is in second place in District 10’s East Division.

“Gleason was the embodiment of efficiency last night,” Post 206 head coach Sean Walsh Said. “But he had some pretty fantastic defense behind him and some clutch hitting against one of the best pitchers (Nick Couhig) on Cape Cod.”

Mike Couhig belted a two-out , pinch-hit, solo home run in the seventh inning for the Post 188 boys.

The District 10 playoffs begin Friday, July 17.
