AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL: Hawkeye AC, Sandwich Post 188 Juniors Capture District 10 Championship Titles

EAST BRIDGEWATER – The tough-to-beat Hawkeye Athletic Club American Legion baseball team defeated Kingston Post 387 last night, 8-7, to take the program’s first-ever District 10 American Legion Baseball Championship title.

Hawkeye AC, now 26-3 on the season, will head to the Massachusetts State Championship Tournament on Saturday, July 25, in Haverhill. Hawkeye will face Pittsfield Post 68 at 4:30 pm at Trinity Stadium in the opening round of the state championship tournament.

Only Barnstable Post 206 and Kingston Post 387 defeated Hawkeye AC this season. Kingston Post 387 snapped Hawkeye’s 21-game winning streak earlier this week in the second game of the playoffs adter Hawkeye’s Ryan Graham blanked Post 387, 4-0, in the championship opener.

Kingston Post 387’s Will Gallagher then breathed hope into the underdogs with a 7-2 win in the second game before Hawkeye AC put it away last night with Mike Kelly on the mound. Kingston Post 387’s Adam Gay belted his 11th home run of the season in the game two victory for the guests. Gay led District 10 in home runs this season and was the District 10 All-Star Game East Division most valuable player.

Sandwich Post 188’s Junior American Legion team captured its second straight District 10 Championship title by defeating Hanson Post 226 last night in a six-inning, 10-0 rout. Post 188 finished at 16-2 on the season, including playoff wins.

Post 188 defeated Hanson Post 226, 4-0, in the championship opener, then followed with a 3-2 win over Bridgewater Post 223 in the second game before downing Hanson for a second time for the title last night. Post 188 is coached by Ken Kozens.

Post 188 will face District 6 champions Littleton Post 249 in the Junior State Championship tournament tomorrow in Greenfield, MA.
