Barnstable High grad Lynne Hibbard paced the Gannon University Lady Knights to a stellar 24-7 season that ended last week.

2012 Barnstable High School graduate Lynne Hibbard, who led Tom Turco’s Red Raiders to back-to-back Massachusetts Div. 1 State Championship volleyball titles in 2010 and 2011 (44-2) as well as three straight Old Colony League titles, led the NCAA Div. II Gannon University Golden Knights to a 24-7 campaign this fall. Hibbard, a 6’0” junior, paced the Knights with 71.0 blocks on the season. Hibbard recorded nine kills in the Lady Knights’ last game of the season last Thursday (Nov. 20) as they fell in the opening round of the NCAA Atlantic Regional, 3-1 to Seton Hill. Hibbard was named earlier this month to the Capital One Academic All-District II NCAA women’s volleyball first team and, as a result, she will now move to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. She earned her first career Academic All-District honor with a 3.91 cumulative grade point average as a Physical Therapy major. The junior middle blocker has been named a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Scholar-Athlete and received the NCAA Division II Athletics Directors Association (ADA) Academic Achievement Award every year during her collegiate career. She is the daughter of Brian and Julie Hibbard of West Barnstable.
2014 Barnstable High graduate Stephanie Martin was named last week to the Hall of Fame Tournament All-Tournament Team playing for Wheaton College women’s volleyball. The freshman defensive specialist helped pace the Lyons to an 18-14 mark this fall. Named the Boston Globe Division 1 High School Player of the Year for Massachusetts in her senior year at Barnstable High School (2013-14), Martin captained the Red Raiders in 2013 and helped lead them to four consecutive Massachusetts State Championship titles from 2010 through 2013. She played on two undefeated teams for head coach Tom Turco and is the daughter of Steve and Marylou Martin of Centerville.
Also playing for the Wheaton College Lyons this season was sophomore Anna Strock, a fellow former Red Raider who played on three Division 1 State Champions under Tom Turco and had an equally impressive high school career as a Red Raider volleyball captain. Strock, the daughter of Margaret and David Strock of Centerville, now has two varsity volleyball letters from Wheaton. The defensive specialist played in 25 matches this fall for the Lyons.

West Barnstable’s Dylan Morris, a 2013 graduate of Barnstable High School and 2013 National American Legion Baseball Scholarship recipient finished up the 2014 baseball season for the UMass-Amherst Minutemen having played in 26 games. He started in left field for 12 of those games and finished with a respectable .267 average. He was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week in May after going 6-8 with four RBI and three multi-hit games for the Minutemen. Morris helped lead Barnstable Post 206 American Legion to back-to-back Massachusetts American Legion State Championship titles in 2012 and 2013 and was named to the 2013 National American Legion All-Academic Team of which only eight players in the country are selected. Morris was a three-sport star at Barnstable High in football, basketball and baseball. He is the son of Greg and Sheila Morris.
Dennis-Yarmouth Class of 2013’s Spencer McCaffrey, a football and baseball star for Coach Paul Funk’s Dolphins and a member of the 2011, 13-0 undefeated Super Bowl champions, had a solid freshman season playing outfield for Division II baseball powerhouse Franklin Pierce under head coach Jay King. McCaffrey helped lead Barnstable Post 206 to the 2013 Massachusetts American Legion State Championship title and hails from South Dennis. He is the son of Dennis Det. Pat McCaffrey and his wife Kecia. McCaffrey was named a 2013 District 10 American Legion All-District Team, First Team outfielder.
Nauset Regional High School former star pitcher Nick Taber finished up his freshman year at Bentley University in fine fashion pitching for the Falcons. The 2013 Warrior grad made 11 appearances on the mound and finished the 2014 season with a 2.89 earned run average and 6 strikeouts in 28 innings of work. Taber was a two-time District 10 American Legion All-District team pitcher for Orleans Post 308. He is the son of Ken and Erica Taber of Eastham.
Barnstable High School 2014 graduate Micah Gregory, a standout out football player for the Red Raiders in 2013, appeared in six varsity games at wide receiver and on special teams for the UMass-Dartmouth Corsairs this fall. Gregory was also a two-year starting outfielder for the BHS baseball team and helped lead Barnstable Post 206 American Legion to the East Division District 10 title this past summer. He was named to the District 10 American Legion All-District team after batting .338 with 16 stolen bases. He is the son of Jim and Linda Gregory of Centerville.
Tufts University cross country and track & field star Greg Hardy of West Barnstable and a former Red Raider star runner, was honored this week for another stellar autumn on the Jumbo trails in Boston.

2011 Barnstable High School graduate and two-time Red Raider boys cross country captain Greg Hardy was named to the 2014 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) All-Sportsmanship Team last week after another brilliant season running for the Tufts University Jumbos. Hardy, who also runs long distance for Tufts in track & field in the spring, is studying biopsychology. He is the son of Chris and Donna Hardy of Barnstable.
Sandwich High School Blue Knights alumnus Mike Sullivan wrapped up his collegiate baseball career at Westfield State last spring with a stellar 3-0 record and one save on the mound for the Owls. The hard-throwing hurler was joined by fellow Cape players Tyler Adams (West Barnstable/Barnstable High School), Pete Liimatainen (West Barnstable/Barnstable High School) and Justin Thomson (Yarmouth Port/Dennis-Yarmouth). Sullivan’s three Cape teammates were all sophomores this past season. Adams, a 2012 Barnstable graduate, batted .236 in 33 games at second base and shortstop for the Owls. Liimatainen, who turned in his best career pitching effort versus Massachusetts Maritime last spring in Buzzards Bay, finished at 3-2 with one save and a 3.31 ERA. Thomson, who played for Dennis-Yarmouth head coach Paul Funk for three varsity seasons, went 1-1 with a 5.68 ERA.
Massachusetts Maritime Academy sophomore Terrence Mudie, a 2013 Barnstable High graduate and three-sport star in football, ice hockey and baseball for the Red Raiders, finished up a spectacular season starting at third base for the Buccaneers in 2014. He collected 12 hits and went 4-6 in stolen bases but played exceptionally well in the field for a rookie at the collegiate level. Mudie helped lead Barnstable Post 206 to its first Massachusetts American Legion State Championship in 2012 and was instrumental in leading Barnstable High’s football team to the 2012 Super Bowl in an 11-1 season. He is the son of Craig and Lynn Mudie of Barnstable Village.
Massachusetts Maritime Academy junior Everett Walsh, a 2012 Barnstable High graduate who helped lead the Red Raiders to Old Colony League championship titles in basketball and baseball, finished his second season starting in the outfield for Coach Corradi’s Buccaneers ranked fifth on the team in hitting (.297) and earned MASCAC All-Academic Team honors for the second straight year. Walsh was a 2012 National American Legion Baseball Scholarship recipient and one of eight players in the country named to the National American Legion All-Academic Team. He is a marine engineering major and the son of Jennifer and Sean Walsh of Marstons Mills.
Massachusetts Maritime Academy sophomore Jonah Olsen, a 2013 Falmouth High graduate, finished up a solid season for the Buccaneers on the baseball diamond and was also listed on the Bucs’ football roster. Olsen was an Atlantic Coast League all-star for the Falmouth High Clippers and has been once named to the MMA Athletic Director’s Honor Roll as a football player. A four-sport standout for the Clippers in high school and a solid pitcher for the Falmouth nine, Olsen is the son of Doug and Debra Olsen.
2014 Barnstable High graduate Hayden Murphy finished up a fine freshman season this fall playing running back for the Princeton University Tigers. A three-sport letterman for the Red Raiders in football, ice hockey and baseball, Murphy was an all-state and all-scholastic running back for the Red Raiders and helped lead them to an 11-1 campaign in 2012 as a junior before setting numerous personal milestones in his senior campaign including rushing for 1,110 yards (8th best all-time at BHS) and scoring 20 touchdowns (his 120 points is the second highest individual football single season point total in Red Raider history). Murphy led the Raider Raider gridders to three consecutive Old Colony League championship titles. He is the son of Jim and Gretchen Murphy of Centerville.
2013 Barnstable High graduate James Burke (West Barnstable, MA) finished up his second season at wide receiver for the Middlebury College Panthers this fall. Burke was a starting wide receiver for the 11-1 Red Raider team in 2012 and also played basketball and baseball for the Red & White and was an Old Colony League all-star in football. He is the son of Joe and Lynne Burke.
2012 Barnstable High School graduate D.J. Crook got his first taste at the quarterback position for the vaunted Penn State Nittany Lions this past fall when he went in against UMass-Amherst and threw his first collegiate touchdown in a 48-7 rout. Crook went 6-9 passing and 57 yards for a QB efficiency rating of 156.5. Crook lettered in football, basketball and baseball at Barnstable High and set the school and state’s all-time yards passing mark (8,081) as well as the most career touchdown passes (77). He was a four-time Old Colony league selection in football and is a sophomore studying engineering. He is the son of Doug and Tina Crook of West Barnstable.
2012 Barnstable High graduate Meghan Talerman recently completed her junior season starting every game as a midfielder f or the Bentley University Faclons Field Hockey team. It was the third straight season Talerman has started and played in every game for the Falcons. She scored six goals and had one assist as the Falcons finished at 10-9. She has 22 career collegiate goals. At Barnstable High, where she captained the Red Raiders in field hockey her senior year, Talerman led the team to three straight Old Colony League championship titles. She is the daughter of Beth and Bert Talerman of Centerville.
2013 Barnstable High graduate Tom Grimmer, a sophomore at Union College, finished his second season as the Dutchmen’s starting center as the Schenectady, New York-based school finished at 2-8 for the fall. Grimmer, who helped captain the Barnstable High Red Raiders to an 11-1 campaign in 2012 and a visit to the Div. 1A Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium, was a three-year varsity football starter and two-time Old Colony League all-star offensive lineman. He is the son of Tom and Kathy Grimmer in West Barnstable.
2013 Barnstable High School graduate Andrew Ellis, who helped captain the Barnstable High Red Raiders to an 11-1 season and trip to the Div. 1A Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium, was a redshirt freshman for the UMass-Amherst Minutemen this fall as a linebacker. Ellis, a four-year starting linebacker for the Red Raiders, led Barnstable high in tackles for three seasons and set the all-time single season tackles mark his sophomore year with 112. Ellis also finished his four-year Red Raider career as the all-time career leader in tackles with 332. He is the son of John and Laurie Ellis of West Barnstable.
