Cape League Report – August 15th, 2016

Y-D started off a little rocky back in June when they went 4-for-6 over their first 10 games (5 of those losses were the first 5 games they played). But as the season progressed, so did they. The Sox finished 26-17 and 1 and were just a half game behind Harwich in the division.

Y-D owned their opponents in the postseason and swept both teams they faced before entering the championship series. They dropped the first game of the series to Falmouth but bounced back the next night.

The Red Sox evened the series on Friday night and forced a game 3. They came out guns-a-blazin’ with three runs in the first, and finished the game with 9 runs on 14 hits while Falmouth had just 4 on 11. In a game in which they were dominant, the Sox were on a mission to make it three championships in a row and the following night, they did just that.

In the championship game on Saturday, Y-D, again, took the lead early. After two innings the score was 3-0 and that’s how it stayed through 9.

The Y-D Red Sox are now your three-time Cape League Champions and will no doubt be going for a fourth next season.
