Cape League Report – August 5th, 2016

Ernie Clement was named the Cape League MVP on Wednesday night. The Harwich Mariner infielder led the league in hits with 59 and in stolen bases with 19 in just 40 games. The rising junior at Virginia finished off the regular season here on the cape with a .353 batting average and played four different defensive positions with the Mariners. Clement and his team are the top seed in the East and begin their hunt for their first title since 2011 at 6:30 vs. the Chatham Anglers.

The Falmouth Commodores have had an outstanding summer. They secured themselves the top seed throughout the playoffs with their 29-15 record. They play at home tonight at 6 against the Hyannis Harbor Hawks who have been struggling as of late.

Y-D hosts Orleans at 4 this afternoon. The Red Sox have a history of strong playoff performances and are definitely a team to keep your eye on.

Rounding out the schedule tonight will be Bourne and Wareham. The second seed Gatemen went on a tear at the end of the season, which included an 8 game winning streak, and a final record of 25-15-4. They host the Braves at 6:30.
