Cape League Report – August 8th, 2016

The first round of the playoffs came and went over the weekend and we’re now down to the final four teams.

In the East, the top seed Mariners were upset by the 4-seed Anglers. Harwich lost the third game of the series 3-1 to Chatham last night.

And it was the Red Sox who added to their postseason reputation as they proceed to the second round. Y-D knocked out Orleans in 2 games and take on the Anglers tonight at 4.

In the West, the Wareham Gatemen were eliminated from championship contention on Saturday when they fell to the Braves 8-7. Both games between Bourne and Wareham were very close. Just a single run separated the two teams in both games.

Over in Hyannis, the Harbor Hawks were shut out two games to none by Falmouth. The Commodores allowed just 2 runs over the two games it took to eliminate Hyannis from the playoffs. Falmouth sealed Hyannis’s fate on Saturday with an 8-2 win and move on to round 2 which begins tonight against Bourne. First pitch is at 6:00 in Falmouth.
