Ferreira Comes Through, Scavotto Registers Shutout in Season Opener

FALMOUTH – For two periods it seemed like a test to see who was best between the pipes.

Falmouth High School senior goalie Maddie Scavotto ended up winning that test even though Sandwich High’s Allison Hir survived a veritable barrage of Clipper shots but ultimately Generic Walsh Hockeysuccumbed in the third period. Hir faced only seven shots in the first period and stopped another 34 over the next two frames but the third period proved the difference for the hosts.

Falmouth (1-0), defending Southeastern Massachusetts Girls’ Hockey League Coastal Division Champions, netted three goals in the final stanza to win both teams’ season-opener last night, 3-0. Kelly Ferreira, McKenzie Haberl and Rachel Curtis each scored but it was Ferreira who scored first and was credited with the game-winning goal.

Scavotto registered the shutout in net with 10 saves. Hir stopped 34 Falmouth shots in all.

Both teams play next on the road on Saturday as Falmouth heads to Marshfield and Sandwich gets another test against the always tough Hingham High Harbormen.
