SPRINGFIELD — Perhaps one of the greatest all-time wrestlers at Barnstable High School, Springfield College’s Will Henson had quite a weekend for himself.
Henson, a college sophomore, picked up three key wins for the Springfield College squad as captured the City of Springfield Championship last week. He picked up two decisions and a
victory by forfeit. Henson battled against Warren Elkey of STCC in his first match, which ended in a 6-5 decision. After a win by forfeit, the sophomore pinned Western New England’s Carl Newman in 0:26.
The Springfield College wrestling team went 3-0 as a team against Springfield Technical Community College, American International College and Western New England to capture the City of Springfield Championship on Wednesday evening in Dana Gym.
The Pride handled STCC, 39-12, in its first match of the day before edging AIC 32-9. Springfield dominated the final match-up against WNE 39-9.
Henson is now 16-11 on the season.
His track record as a Red Raider, however, knows few parallels. Henson graduated in 2013 from Barnstable High holding the all-time individual win-loss record with a lifetime 164-20 record.
