Lewis’ home run proved to be the difference-maker in this affair as Orleans’ righty Kyle Serrano (Tennessee) held the Falmouth Commodores’ bats at bay for five solid innings for the win. He struck out two and walked one while allowing one run on three hits.

Nick Zammarelli (Elon) and Carmen Benedetti (Michigan) both added a pair of hits to the solid Orleans’ hitting attack. Zammarelli crushed a two-run, ground-rule double in the seventh to solidify Orleans’ lead over its host.

Hyannis Harbor Hawks Stay atop West Division Standings with Win over Chatham Anglers

For the second straight night Florida Gulf Coast’s Jake Noll factored heavily into victory for the Harbor Hawks as he went 3-4 with two RBI to help Hyannis to a 5-2 win over the Chatham Anglers at Veterans Field.

Down 2-1 heading into the 7th inning, Noll hammered a two-run double to cap off a four-run rally that put Hyannis ahead to stay and made a winner out of middle reliever Marc Skinner, a righty out of Troy State.

Noll is currently leading the Cape League in hitting with a .432 average.

Jacksonville’s Austin Hays and Texas A&M’s Ryne Birk both added a pair of hits for the visiting Harbor Hawks.

Chatham’s Aaron Knapp (Cal-Berekley) laced a two-run single in the third for the Anglers and he went 2-4 with two RBI on the night.

Brewster Whitecaps Stage Six-Run Fifth Inning in Win over Bourne Braves

Florida International catcher J.C. Escarra hammered a leadoff double in the top of the fifth inning to spark a six-run rally that the host Bourne Braves could not recover from at Doran Park last night.

Tied in a 0-0 deadlock heading into the fifth frame, Escarra’s double was followed a Will Smith (Louisville) single and then Tyler Ramirez (NC-Chapel Hill) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. The first run in the rally – and in the game – then came on another hit batsman, to wit Chandler Avant (Alabama-Tuscaloosa) for a 1-0 lead.

Louisville’s Colin Lyman (2-4, 2 RBI) made it 3-0 with a two-run-basehit, and then Nick Senzel (Tennessee) raked a two-run double to make it 5-0. Robbie Tenerowicz (Cal-Berkeley) made it 6-0 with a sacrifice fly to rightfield that drove in Senzel.

Pacific right-hander Jacob Jenkins notched the win for the Whitecaps as he struck out four in five innings of work and allowed just one run on three hits and three walks.

Wareham Gatemen Snatch Victory from Cotuit Kettleers

Tied 2-2 heading into the ninth inning, the visiting Wareham Gatemen snagged a 4-3 win from the host Cotuit Kettleers last night at Lowell Park in Cotuit, plating a pair of runs that the Kettleers could not get back.

Wareham reliever Shea Spitzbarth (Molloy) notched the win as he tossed a pair of scoreless innings in the 8th and 9th frames and allowed just two hits.

Cape League leading hitter David MacKinnon (Hartford) maintained his status amidst the top Cape League batting leaders (.373) with a 2-4 night at the plate and one RBI while teammate Charlie Warren (Rice) also went 2-4.

Bieber Holds off Harwich Mariners’ Bats, Walton and Billingsley Factor in Huge

Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox shortstop Donnie Walton (Oklahoma State) drove in three runs and his teammates added 10 hits on the night as the visitors blanked the host Harwich Mariners at Whitehouse Field in Harwich.

Walton’s two-run single in the seventh inning, with the Sox ahead just 2-0, gave starter Shane Bieber (UC-Santa Barbara) some breathing room as the righty went 7 2/3 innings and struck out six before giving way to closer Doug Willey (Franklin Pierce) who also held Harwich scoreless in 1.1 innings.

Y-D leadoff man Cole Billingsley (South Alabama) went 3-5 to set the table for his Red Sox teammates and Stephen Wrenn (Georgia), Luke Bonfield (Arkansas) and catcher Michael Papierski (LSU) all chipped in with two hits apiece on the night.
