MMA Buccaneers Fall to Suffolk in Volleyball Tilt

 

BUZZARDS BAY — Suffolk University freshman Talia Lombardo (Windham, NH) recorded eight kills, eight service aces and eight digs to lead the visiting Rams to a 3-0 non-league win over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday evening by game scores of 25-9, 25-9 and 25-19 in a match played at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.

Suffolk freshman Bridget Allison (Westford, MA) also notched eight kills in the triumph for the visiting Rams (1-1), who presented Head Coach Bonny Ducharme with her first collegiate win. Sophomore Jane Buckley (Plaistow, NH) collected five service aces as well for Suffolk, which also received four kills from freshman Chidera Nwankwo (Canton, MA) to go with a combined 16 set assists from senior Caitlyn Mockler (Manchester, CT) and sophomore Liz Kerek (Holbrook, MA).

Massachusetts Maritime senior Charleen Klangos (Lowell, MA) notched six set assists, two kills and a pair of service aces in the setback for the host Buccaneers (0-2), who also received two kills each from senior Emily Calnan (Hingham, MA) and junior Cassidy Nice (Carver, MA).

Buccaneers’ frosh Kaleigh Hoffman (Noblesville, IN) chipped in with six digs for Massachusetts Maritime, while juniors Stephanie O’Connor (Westwood, MA) and Meaghan Brain (Hanson, MA) combined for 11 digs. Bucs’ junior Emma Ethier (Norton, MA) notched three assists in the effort.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Milton, Mass. for a non-league tri-match with Pine Manor and host Curry on Saturday afternoon beginning at 1:00 pm, while Suffolk travels to Bridgewater, Mass. on Thursday evening to take on Bridgewater State in a non-league outing that begins at 6:00 pm.
