Nantucket Swims Past St. John Paul II Lions

NANTUCKET – The Nantucket High School swim team overmatched the still young St. John Paul II Co-Ed Lions last night, by the score of 95-55, but the Lions had plenty to be encouraged about with a superlative effort.

The Lions’ Kristen Hayes took a first place finish in the 50 freestyle event with a time of 27.21 while Kerry Bresnahan qualified for the state sectionals with her first place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:19.19. Bresnahan also took a second place finish in the 100 butterfly with her time of 1:06.63.

The St. John Paul II Lions have six returning veterans from last year’s squad and this year have added 12 new varsity team members, including a pair of eighth graders. The co-ed varsity squad is comprised of 10 boys and 10 girls.

“Their enthusiasm is contagious,” said head coach Jena Brown. “I can’t wait to see how the season goes.”
