News from Around the League

footballHere is the latest on what is happening in the NFL:

— Colts coach Chuck Pagano said quarterback Andrew Luck looked good as he threw some passes at Tuesday’s practice. Pagano said Luck took most of the snaps while Matt Hasselbeck sat out due to illness. Although Luck increased his workload, it remains uncertain if he’ll play Thursday at Houston after sitting out Sunday’s overtime victory because of a right shoulder injury.

— Chicago Bears center Will Montgomery will miss the remainder of the season because of a broken left fibula. The team placed Montgomery on injured reserve. He broke his leg early in Sunday’s 22-20 win over the Oakland Raiders.

— Greg Hardy has returned from a four-game suspension over his role in a domestic violence case. Hardy answered almost every question about the episode in North Carolina last year with a reference to football.

— Lions coach Jim Caldwell says he doesn’t want the Lions to be distracted by more discussion of Calvin Johnson’s fumble on Detroit’s final possession in Monday’s 13-10 loss to Seattle. The ball was knocked out of the back of the end zone by the Seahawks’ K.J. Wright, who could have been flagged for illegally batting the ball. Instead, officials ruled the play a touchback that gave the ball to Seattle with 1:45 remaining.

— Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman says he has traded linebacker Gerald Hodges to the San Francisco 49ers for rookie center Nick Easton and a sixth-round draft pick. Hodges had been the starting middle linebacker in the base defense after serving as a backup outside linebacker in Minnesota’s 4-3 scheme his first two seasons. Easton was acquired by the 49ers in a deal with the Baltimore Ravens last month.

— The Buffalo Bills report that running back Karlos Williams sustained a concussion in Sunday’s loss to the Giants, prompting the team to ink free-agent Dan Herron. Williams is following the NFL’s concussion protocol and must pass a series of tests before being cleared to play. The rookie was making his first start filling in for LeSean McCoy, who is out indefinitely because of a hamstring injury.

— The Atlanta Falcons have placed wide receiver and return specialist Devin Hester on injured reserve-designated to return with a turf toe injury. Hester will be able to return at Tampa Bay on Dec. 6. Hester, who earned his fourth Pro Bowl berth in 2014, has not played this season because of the injury.

— The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed kicker Connor Barth for a third stint with the team. Barth’s signing was announced one day after rookie Kyle Brindza was released after going 2 for 7 on field-goal attempts with two missed extra points the past two games.
