Red Raider Volleyball Boys Take Down Presidents

QUINCY – Backed by another stellar performance from junior co-captain Scott Sawyer Jr., and re-energized with the return of senior co-captain Donnie Mach, the Barnstable High boys’ volleyball team nailed down a big win over Quincy High on the road Wednesday evening.

Mirroring their win over Quincy at home before April vacation, the Red Raiders won the first two sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-13, and then dropped the third set, 25-18.

The Red & White net men then took the fourth and decisive set, 25-17, and secured their third straight victory. Barnstable defeated Taunton on Monday (April 27), 3-2, on the first day back from vacation.

In Mach’s return, he did not disappoint, collecting 17 kills and 15 digs in a superlative effort.

Fellow co-captain Harrison West-Mather was equally proficient, bearing down for 35 assists and tacking one nine digs on defense. West-Mather is an estimated 100 assists shy of breaking the 1,000-assist milestone for his Red Raider career.

Sophomore setter Matt Teague turned in 11 digs and Scott McNair had eight.

“They played pretty good today,” Barnstable head coach Marylou Martin said. “It was good to have Donnie Mach back.”

Barnstable next welcomes Medfield on Friday at 5:30 pm.
