THE CAPE LEAGUE: Dalbec Hammers Pair of Homers, Orleans Edges Y-D Red Sox

ORLEANS – Cape Cod Baseball League leading home run hitter Bobby Dalbec (Arizona) hammered a pair of home runs and had three RBI last night to pace the East Division-leading Orleans Firebirds to a 5-4 win over the visiting Y-D Red Sox.

Teammates Brian Reynolds (Vanderbilt) added a 3-4 performance from the leadoff spot and Kyle Lewis (Mercer) went 2-4 as big parts of the Orleans’ nine-hit attack.

Virginia Tech southpaw Kit Scheetz got the win in relief for Orleans as he tossed a perfect ninth frame.

It was Orleans Firebird Ronnie Dawson (Ohio State), though, who gave the ‘Birds what they needed to win it in the ninth inning.

Tres Barrera (Miami) drew a one-out walk and Justin Jones pinch ran for him before Dawson drove in Jones for the game-winner with a single.

Stanford’s Tommy Edman went 2-4 for the Red Sox with two RBI.

Cotuit Kettleers Battle Back Against Wareham Gatemen

COTUIT — Vanderbilt’s Jeren Kendall crushed a two-run triple in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the Wareham Gatemen at 3-3 and then Tim Susnara (Oregon) singled in the sixth to give the host Cotuit Kettleers what they needed to win last night at Lowell Park.

The final score was 5-3 after Cotuit plated an 8th inning insurance run on a Jackson Klein (Stanford) single.

Dartmouth’s Duncan Robinson got the win in relief for Cotuit after 2.2 innings of work. He allowed one hit, walked one and struck out one.

UC-Santa Barbara’s Andrew Calica went 2-4 with two RBI for the visiting Gatemen.
