The Top 5 Sporting Events to Watch this Weekend

Los Angeles Angels at Texas Rangers / Houston Astros at Arizona Diamondbacks

The race for the second American League wildcard spot comes down to the final weekend of the year. The Angels and Astros are battling it out for the final spot, and are also chasing the Rangers, who enter the weekend in control of the AL West. Major League Baseball is starting every single game in the majors at 3 o’clock on Sunday, could we see some last day fireworks in the hunt for the playoffs?

Miami Dolphins vs. New York Jets, In London

Sunday 9:30 AM

This Sunday features an extra time slot for football, beyond the usual 1:00, 4:25, and 8:30 triple-header of action. The Dolphins and Jets head to London to clash at Wembley Stadium, making it a 9:30 kickoff in the states. This isn’t the best matchup of the weekend, the Dolphins are a mess right now and the Jets are coming off a bad loss against Philadelphia, but more football on a Sunday is never a bad thing.

#6 Notre Dame at #12 Clemson

Saturday 8 PM

One of the premier top 25 matchups this week. The Irish are fresh off their 62-27 rout of UMass. Notre Dame should be a tough test for Clemson, who have not faced a ranked opponent this year.

Boston Bruins at Washington Capitals

Friday, 7 PM. NHL Network

The Bruins have one final tune-up before they open their season on October 8th against the Winnipeg Jets. There are plenty of questions to answer about the Bs this year, after they missed the playoffs last season. This is a chance to see the new look Bruins before the regular season begins.

Red Sox at Cleveland

The final series of the year for the suddenly surging Red Sox. This is your last chance to see the Boston 9 in action until next April. That’s too far away.

The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. –A.
