Top 5 Sporting Events this Weekend

Jacksonville Jaguars at New England Patriots – 1 PM Sunday

Coming off a dominating 40 point offensive performance on the road against the stout Buffalo Bills defense, how many points will Tom Brady and company put up against the Jaguars? Jacksonville comes in to town after last week’s upset of the Miami Dolphins, but upsetting the Patriots in Foxboro is a much more difficult task.

Baltimore Orioles at Boston Red Sox – Friday through Sunday

Although Red Sox fans are eager to put the 2015 season in the rear view mirror, the final homestand of the year is always bittersweet. Baseball won’t be played at Fenway Park for another 7 months, that’s too far away.

Pittsburgh Pirates at Chicago Cubs / Texas Rangers at Houston Astros – Friday through Sunday

The Pirates lead the Cubs by 3 and a half games in the NL Wildcard, while the Rangers lead the Astros by 3 and a half games in the AL West. For the Astros, this series is a must win to try and avoid a do-or-die one game wildcard playoff with the New York Yankees, and to stay ahead of the Minnesota Twins and the LA Angels in the wildcard race. Meanwhile, both the Cubs and the Pirates are battling for which team will host the other in the one game playoff. Cubs fans are hoping that venue is Wrigley Field.

The Tour Championship – Thursday through Sunday

Five golfers are in the running for the FedEx Cup at the final event in the four tournament playoff, and they’re all big names. Jason Day, Henrik Stenson, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, and Bubba Watson are chasing the 10 million dollar prize in golf’s final event of the year.

Massachusetts at Notre Dame – Saturday 3:30 PM

Can we be brutally honest? This game is going to be awful. The 6th ranked Irish will smoke the hapless Minutemen (who are four touchdown underdogs). But this is a major moment for the University of Massachusetts, its students, and the thousands of alumni spread out across Cape Cod and the Commonwealth. The Minutemen are a new Division 1 program and are making their first ever trip to South Bend, a big moment for any college football program and their fans.
