Florida State’s Ben DeLuzio ripped a two-out, 1-2 pitch for a basehit to drive in Florida Gulf Coast’s Jake Noll and the pair helped the Harbor Hawks maintain their grip on first place in the Cape Cod Baseball League’s West Division Thursday night at McKeon Park.

Deadlocked in a 1-1 tie, Noll led off the ninth with a single and advanced to second base on a wild pitch before reliever Matthew Kinney (Belmont) induced Blake Tiberi (Louisville) to pop out to center for the first out. Kinney then intentionally walked Kentucky’s JaVon Shelby followed by a grounder to second by Colby Bortles (Ole Miss) that put both Noll and Shelby in scoring position.

That set up DeLuzio for the game-winning baseknock with one ball and two strikes on him before he ripped it for the win.

Thomas Burrows (Alabama) got the win in relief for Hyannis as he came in for starter Nick Deeg (Central Michigan) in the ninth. Deeg turned in eight solid innings with six strikeouts and allowed just one run on five hits.

Noll went 2-4 on the night for Hyannis, as did Bortles.

It was Shelby who hammered a solo shot in the bottom of the second inning that gave Hyannis the early, 1-0, lead.

Cotuit plated one to tie it in the top of the seventh inning as Jackson Klein (Stanford) singled in Kort Peterson (UCLA) to knot it at 1-1.

Chatham Anglers Upstage First-Place Orleans Firebirds with 10th Inning Win

Tied 1-1 after nine full frames at Eldredge Park in Orleans, Chatham’s Will Craig (Wake Forest) led off the 10th with a walk and ace righty pitcher Parker Dunshee (Wake Forest) came in to pinch run, advanced to second and third on consecutive putouts and then scored the game-winner on a wild pitch.

The two Demon Deacons got the job done.

Brandon Miller (Millersville) got the win for Chatham after one inning of relief work, He struck out one and walked one in the ninth for the win.
