SOUTH YARMOUTH – Oklahoma State’s Donnie Walton went three for four and drove in a pair of runs, including a solo home run to spark a six-run rally in the seventh, as the host Y-D Red Sox rolled over the visiting Chatham Anglers, 9-2, at Merrill “Red” Wilson Field Wednesday night.

Ahead 3-1 heading into the bottom of the 7th inning, Walton’s leadoff solo shot led to the entire Y-D Red Sox lineup getting a shot up at the plate before the dust finally settled and the Sox boasted a 9-1 lead.
Former Barnstable Post 206 American Legion two-time All-District team shortstop and freshman All-American Will Toffey (Vanderbilt), a Barnstable village native, got his first taste of the Cape League as he walked three times in the game.
Y-D’s Stephen Wrenn (Georgia) and Gio Brusa (Pacific) each added a pair of hits in the host’s 11-hit attack. Cole Billingsley (South Alabama) drove in a pair of runs with his 7th inning basehit.
Michigan southpaw Brett Adcock went five innings for the win. He struck out four and allowed one run on five walks and three hits.
Chatham’s Luke Persico (UCLA) and Todd Czinge (Villanova) both belted solo home runs for the Anglers in the fifth and ninth innings but that was all the offense the visitors could muster.
Calica Solo Home Run All Wareham Needs to Hold off Cotuit Kettleers
WAREHAM – Virginia Tech southpaw Jon Woodcock was virtually unhittable Wednesday night for the visiting Cotuit Kettleers, except for the one hit that spelled the difference for the host Wareham Gatemen in a 1-0 win at Spillane Field.
Woodcock took the hard-luck loss in spite of pitching 5 2/3 innings of no-hit, shutout baseball before Wareham centerfielder Andrew Calica (UC-Santa Barbara) hammered a 2-1 pitch over the wall for a 1-0 lead. Woodcock finished the inning out and went six full frames. He walked just one and struck out four. Duke University lefty Mitch Stallings came on in relief for Cotuit and was equally impressive in his two innings of relief work as he allowed no runs and no hits and struck out one.
Calica’s solo home run was Wareham’s only hit of the night, while Cotuit outhit its host Gatemen, 4-1.
Boston College’s Johnny Adams went 2-5 last night for the Harwich Mariners and belted his first Cape League home run.

Wareham reliever Blake Fox (Rice) picked up the win with 4.2 innings of middle relief. He scattered three hits and allowed no runs while walking two and striking out four.
Harwich Mariners Outslug Bourne Braves at Doran Park
Connor Justus (Georgia Tech) and Walpole native Johnny Adams (Boston College) combined for four hits and four RBI with Adams belting his first Cape League home run as the pair led the Harwich Mariners to a 6-2 win over the host Bourne Braves at Doran Park last night.
Tied 1-1 heading into the top of the fifth inning, Justus ripped a bases-loaded, two-run, one out single and then Adams singled to load the bases again before two more runs came home to make it 5-1 when Saige Jenco (Virginia Tech) reached on an error by the first baseman.
Justus went 2-3 on the day with three RBI and Adams went 2-5 with a home run and one RBI. Harwich leadoff man Adam Pate (North Carolina) also went 2-5 for the Mariners.
West Virginia’s Ross Vance, a junior southpaw, went just 2/3 of an inning in relief and got the win.
Bourne Braves’ centerfielder Ryan Boldt (Nebraska) went 2-5 with one RBI on the night.
The Mariners put up 10 hits in all to Bourne’s eight.
Editor’s Note: Two of last night’s Cape League games were postponed due to unplayable field conditions. The Falmouth Commodores were slated to play the Hyannis Harbor Hawks at McKeon Park in downtown Hyannis and the Brewster Whitecaps were on tap to face the Orleans Firebirds but both games were postponed.
