Your Cape League Report for June 15th, 2016

Bourne @ Cotuit

After being down 4-0 to Bourne (4-0), going into the bottom of the 7th, Cotuit (0-4), scored 5 runs on 3 hits to take the lead. However, their lead didn’t last as right-handed reliever Colton Hock (Stanford), allowed 3 runs in the last two innings resulting in a final score of 7-5 in favor of the Braves.

Hock is credited with the loss while his teammate at Stanford, righty Keith Weisenberg, got the win for Bourne.

Chatham @ Y-D

Some impressive pitching was showcased at Red Wilson Field last night as Chatham (2-2), edged out Y-D (0-4), 4-3. After giving up a lead-off homer to Angler DJ Artis (Liberty), right-handed pitcher Pat Vanderslice (St. Joseph’s), found a groove and retired the next 17 batters. Vanderslice went 5+ innings allowing 4 runs on 4 hits with an error and 5 strikeouts.

On the mound for Chatham was lefty Tom Cosgrove (Manhattan). Cosgrove went three scoreless innings and ended up giving up 2 runs in his 5+ innings of work. Cosgrove was ultimately credited with the win, giving up 3 earned runs on 5 hits, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.

Falmouth @ Hyannis

Falmouth (3-1), shut out Hyannis (0-5), at McKeon Park last night on the back of Cape Cod’s own, Dylan Morris (UMass Amherst). Morris, a Barnstable High School alum, hammered a 2 RBI double in the top of the fourth to give the Commodores their first runs of the game. Falmouth’s defense didn’t allow a single run as they went on to win the game 5 to nothing.

Hyannis is now 0 and 5 on the season and won’t get a shot at a win until Thursday when they play the Commodores again, this time in Falmouth.

Brewster @ Wareham

Despite defensive mistakes by Wareham (2-2), the Brewster Whitecaps (3-1) weren’t able to capitalize on their eight hits. Scoring only two runs and committing 3 errors in the field, the Whitecaps failed to win their fourth game of the season. Starting pitcher for Brewster, Ryan Feltner (Ohio State), allowed a single run in his first five innings pitched. Feltner was replaced in the top of the sixth after he gave up another run.

Wareham’s bullpen was strong in relief as Ryan Selmer (Maryland), clocked the win and Ryan Wilson (Pepperdine), is credited with the save.

Harwich @ Orleans

Harwich (5-0), keeps on rolling as they put up their fifth straight win to start the season. Totaling five runs on seven hits, the Mariners beat Orleans (2-2), 5-2. Harwich went up early on the Firebirds as shortstop Ernie Clement (Virginia), scored on a wild pitch in the top of the first. One more runner scored in the first half of that inning and the Mariners held on to the lead the rest of the way.

The four rainouts from Saturday will be made up tonight. The Commodores will head to Y-D at 5:00. Also at 5, Cotuit will host Brewster. At 6, Bourne faces Chatham at home and Wareham plays in Orleans at 7.
