Bystanders pull man from blazing camper in Marstons Mills


MARSTONS MILLS
– From Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire (COMM): COMM Fire Department responded two engines and an incident commander to a report of a recreational vehicle (RV) fire at 96 Cammett Way around 4:52 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The first arriving engine discovered a large recreational vehicle 50% involved in fire with impingement to a fence and the surrounding landscape. Firefighters began extinguishing the fire which required additional manpower to establish a water supply and to provide second attack line to put water on the exposed fence.

Barnstable Police and COMM Fire Department Investigators eventually identified a man who claimed to be inside the unregister RV when the fire began. The man stated that the RV belonged to his son, and he was unsure how the fire started. Bystanders and neighbors stated they discovered the RV on fire and pulled the man from the smoke filled vehicle when they heard him yelling for help. No one was injured in the rescue.

COMM Fire Investigators- Fire Prevention Officer Grossman and Firefighter Lehane notified the State Fire Marshal’s Office of the incident for follow up. Further, the Barnstable County Sherriff’s Office was requested for photographs. The incident remains under investigation. The RV was a total loss and valued at under $10,000. While firefighters were repacking hose a resident of the home requested transport to the hospital for an unrelated medical emergency.
