Bourne Stop on Cape Flyer Route to be Considered For Next Season

Bourne Bridge and BoatBOURNE – Continued success of the Cape Flyer could result in adding a stop on the Upper Cape next year.

Local transportation officials will talk with state and Bourne officials about adding a stop on government owned land underneath the Bourne Bridge on the Cape side of the canal.

CCRTA Administrator Tom Cahir says the stop would make Sandwich, Falmouth, and the Vineyard more accessible.

“If we had a stop on the south side of the canal we could shoot people down to Sandwich and we could shoot people right down MacArthur Boulevard and or County Road, whichever is more efficient, to meet the ferries”

Cahir says no major construction would be needed at the proposed station as it would not be a full service commuter rail station. “We’re talking about a stop for six trains a weekend, fifteen weekends a year,” he said, “there might be some minor construction to extend a platform of some sort.”
