BARNSTABLE – A car fire on Route 6 westbound between exits 7 and 6 stalled traffic in the area beginning at about 3:30 p.m.
Barnstable fire crews responded to find the Chrysler Pacifica engulfed in the breakdown lane.
Firefighters put out the blaze, which had spread to some grass, in a about 10 minutes, according to Barnstable Fire Chief Frank Pulsifer.
There were no injuries to the lone passenger of the vehicle.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated, but Pulsifer said the fire is believed to be accidental and non-suspicious.
Both westbound lanes were closed for about 5 minutes before one lane was reopened.
Route 6 westbound was completely open around 4 p.m.
Cars heading toward the Sagamore Bridge were stopped on the highway watching fire fighters responding to the blaze, according to one motorist.
