BOURNE – A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Friday in Bourne for Canal Bluffs III, the third phase of a mixed-income residential development.
Once completed, the housing development will contain 117 affordable, workforce and market-rate apartment homes.
Preservation of Affordable Housing, in partnership with Housing Assistance Corporation, will develop the residential community one mile from the Bourne Bridge.
Speakers at the ceremony, which was followed by a tour of the grounds, included Congressman Bill Keating, HAC CEO Alisa Galazzi, State Senator Vinny deMacedo and State Representative Randy Hunt.
“When you have Housing Assistance Corporation of Cape Cod coming together with Preservation of Affordable Housing, two big groups that have had success working with others, all those things came together, it’s not easy, but it’s necessary,” said Keating.
The Department of Housing and Community Development supported the project with Low Income Housing Tax Credits that will leverage over $7.5 million in equity and over $850,000 in direct subsidy.
“Housing isn’t just housing, it is a place where our workforce goes home and rests and rejuvenates so that they can get back out and keep our economy going and keep our lifestyle happening here on Cape Cod,” said Galazzi.
