BUZZARDS BAY – A project which has been in the works for over two years has come one step closer to completion.

A Wareham developer has filed plans for a Hampton Inn Hotel franchise with the Bourne Town Clerk’s office.

The 100-room structure will be built at 25 Perry Ave in Buzzards Bay and will connect to the Main Street-area waste treatment pipeline.

Since the complex’s location is within a duly designated growth incentive zone, it is not subject to review by the Cape Cod Commission.

Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Marie Oliva said that she expects the hotel’s construction will usher in a new era of building in downtown.

“The town has done their job in terms of investing in the community with streetscapes and the parks, and it is up to investors now to come into the community and do their share,” she said.

Oliva also said that she hopes the decrepit buildings on Main Street will be torn down to make way for “fresh faces” in the area.

Construction could begin on the Hotel as soon as this spring, Oliva said.
