Public Hearing in Barnstable to Discuss Proposed Eversource Rate Hike

BARNSTABLE – The Department of Public Utilities will hold a public hearing early next month in Barnstable to discuss a proposed rate hike from Eversource Energy.

The utility company has requested a 7 percent increase in revenues to support its electricity distribution operations.

The proposal submitted in January would increase electric bills by a total of $96 million to address increases in operating and maintenance costs, along with modernizing the electric grid.

The average residential customer would see monthly bills increase by $8.45 per month.

The hearing, which is Monday, April 3 in the Harborview Conference Room at the Barnstable County Complex at 7 p.m., is part of a series across the state this spring.

Other local hearings are scheduled for April 6 at Plymouth South High School at 7 p.m. and April 24 in Tisbury at Katherine Cornell Theatre at 6 p.m.

The DPU will make a decision on the request by November 30.

If approved, new rates would take effect January 1.
