Two More Great Blue Herron Found Dead in Mashpee River

MASHPEE – Officials with the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe are concerned after a two more Great Blue Herron were found dead in the Mashpee River Wednesday morning.

Five birds have been discovered in recent weeks in the river at Herring Run located on Tribal lands. The animals are being tested at the University of Connecticut to see if they have any contaminants. Detailed results are expected next week.

The birds had no signs of bullet holes or any trauma.

The herron eat herring and officials want to hear from anyone who may have gotten sick after eating herring from the river.
