MASHPEE – One person was rescued in unknown condition from the scene of a mobile home fire in Mashpee. Flames were through the roof when crews arrived at Lakeside Estates at 300 Nathan Ellis Highway (Route 151) after the 3:20 AM Wednesday alarm. The fire was contained to the single unit. The State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire. Old Barnstable Road was closed due to hose lines running across it.
From Mashpee Fire: At 3:19 AM on November 19, 2025, the Mashpee Fire & Rescue Department received a 911 call reporting a structure fire at 300 Nathan Ellis Highway lot 86 in the Lakeside Trailer Park.
First arriving companies encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions coming from the residence. Crews were also advised of a possible occupant still inside the home, prompting an immediate interior fire attack and search operation.
The fire was quickly knocked down, however, search efforts were significantly hindered by limited access and the severe interior conditions of the structure. During prolonged overhaul operations, firefighters were able to gain access to the bedroom area through an exterior wall. At that time, it was confirmed that one occupant was located inside the bedroom.
The victim was removed from the residence, and resuscitative efforts were initiated but the individual did not survive.
The incident remains under active investigation by the Massachusetts State Police and State Fire Marshal’s Office, in cooperation with Mashpee Fire & Rescue investigators.
Mutual aid assistance was provided by the Falmouth, Sandwich, Joint Base Cape Cod, and Cotuit Fire Departments. There were no injuries to any firefighters operating at the scene.
Thank you to all assisting agencies for their professionalism and coordinated efforts during this difficult incident.
Statement from State Fire Marshal’s Office: One adult is deceased after an early morning fire on Nathan Ellis Highway, said Mashpee Fire Chief Joseph Peltier, Mashpee Police Chief Scott Carline, State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine, and Cape & Islands District Attorney Robert J. Galibois.
The Mashpee Fire Department responded to the manufactured home at about 3:20 this morning after a neighbor called 9-1-1. The first personnel on scene observed heavy smoke coming from the front left area of the structure. They reported that they did not hear smoke alarms sounding on arrival.
Firefighters immediately attempted to make entry but were hindered by a hole that had burned through the floor. After cutting a hole through the wall to gain access, they located the sole occupant, an adult male who was unresponsive, and attempted lifesaving efforts. Conditions inside the home quickly deteriorated and caused major structural damage.
Sadly, the man was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of his death.
Firefighters were able to knock down the bulk of the fire by about 3:55 AM. Its origin and cause are being investigated by the Mashpee Fire Department, Mashpee Police Department, State Police fire investigators assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office, and the State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Cape & Islands DA’s office. They are supported by the Department of Fire Services’ Code Compliance & Enforcement Unit.
