ONSET – A house caught fire in Onset around 5:15 PM Friday. Crews from several departments including Bourne responded to the scene at 38 Old Onset Road. The fire went to two alarms.
Shortly after 5:30 PM it was reported the bulk of the fire had been knocked down.
From Onset Fire: At approximately 5:19 PM, the Onset Fire Department received a 911 report of a structure fire at 38 Old Onset Road. A structure fire response was dispatched including a line response from the Wareham Fire Department.
While enroute, police arrived and reported fire showing from the rear of the structure. With that report, Engine 1 under command of Capt. Feeney requested a working fire assignment. On arrival units found heavy fire showing from a 2-story ranch style residence, and reported no residents found in the home. Assistant Chief Andersen arrived and assumed command of the scene. With all units actively engaged in fire attach, a second alarm was struck requesting requesting several communities to the scene to assist with fire extinguishment and overhaul. In all, approximately 50 firefighters operating to mitigate the incident.
At the time the fire is under investigation by the Onset Fire Department and Wareham Police, assisted by the State Fire Marshal’s Office Fire Investigation Unit. Two firefighters were evaluated on scene by Wareham EMS but did not require any further treatment or care. No other injuries were reported.
Assistance at the scene was provided by the following agencies: Wareham Fire District, Wareham EMS, Wareham Police, Bourne Fire Department, Marion Fire Department, Plymouth Fire Department, with Carver Fire Department providing coverage at Onset Fire Headquarters, Department of Fire Services provided a rehab truck as well as the Providence Canteen truck also assisted at the scene with providing rehab services to the firefighters.
