Sad update: One rescued, one dead after boat capsizes off Yarmouth


YARMOUTH – Multiple agencies responded to a rescue at sea Saturday evening. The call came sometime after 8 PM that a vessel had capsized off Point Gammon on Great Island. Yarmouth Fire and the Hyannis Fire boat responded. The regional dive team was activated and the Coast Guard was also responding. A nearby vessel pulled one person from the water who was brought into shore by the Hyannis fire boat and evaluated. A second person was reported missing and believed to still be in the water.

The Coast Guard reported that their crews and local agencies were currently searching for a 55-year-old male missing in the water after a 17-foot boat overturned in the vicinity of Hyannis.

Update: About 9 AM, the Coast Guard reported that just before 8 a.m. Sunday morning a helicopter from USCG Air Station Cape Cod recovered the missing man unresponsive. He was transported to Woods Hole and transferred to local EMS where he was pronounced deceased.
