DENNIS – Shortly after 5 p.m. on Friday a tractor-trailer car-carrier apparently cut a short corner making a right turn from Route 6A east to Old Bass River Road south in Dennis Village. The rig’s trailer hooked a large tree, knocking it to the ground (top photo above).

Firefighters at Dennis Fire Department Station 2, about 100 yards from the intersection, heard a tremendous crash and called in the incident. They reported that a portion of the tree was caught up in the trailer and the vehicle was proceeding up Old Bass River Road with the tree hanging out on both sides of the trailer. Reports at the scene indicate that some low-hanging wires were ripped down as the truck made its way south.

The truck driver finally pulled his rig to the side of the road at 867 Old Bass River Road, about 600 feet north of the entrance to the Dennis Highlands golf course (bottom photo above).

Police notified the Dennis Department of Public Works and requested a crew to clean up the intersection at Route 6A. The Dennis Fire Department responded to the car carrier and explored options for removing the tree from the trailer.

A placard taped to the cab of the truck read “A1A Transport Inc” from Agawam, Massachusetts. The trailer had several cars on board.

A crew from Silver Cloud Towing responded to the scene and cleared the tree from the trailer.
