Green Spot Garden Center in South Yarmouth has been serving the community for over 4 decades. First opened by Jim and Jean Keary in 1969, the business has remained in the family and the same location on Route 28.

I visited Green Spot Garden Center on a sunny Tuesday afternoon. I was immediately greeted by a friendly face who wanted to know if I was looking for anything in particular. In fact, ever since the weather had gotten cooler, I’d been thinking about buying and planting tulip bulbs.

The conversation in front of the bulb wall was easy and laid back. The staff at Green Spot Garden Center answered all my questions without making me feel like they were just interested in a sale.

Before deciding on exactly which color tulips I’d like, I decided to wander around the garden center. Green Spot proves that looks can be deceiving. The front of the building makes it appear much smaller than it really is. The grounds extend further back than you would think, which include a potting shed, a 600 square foot greenhouse, and a lathe structure.

A walk through the flowers and plants was incredibly relaxing. Along the way, I met another employee of Green Spot who was approachable but not pushy.

In addition to ready to plant items, Green Spot Garden Center also has several types of seeds and bulbs which all come with free advice. They also stock seasonal items such as decorations for various holidays.

Through four decades, Green Spot Garden Center has been serving avid gardeners and newbie plant lovers like me. Because of this, they’ve amassed a loyal following in the community. During my visit, it was easy to see why, friendly helpful advice in a beautiful setting meant I left with several bags of tulip bulbs, instructions on planting, and a few insider tips on when I should come back if I need more.

Green Spot Garden Center is located at 1085 Route 28 in South Yarmouth or find out more online.
