HARWICH – Over 3,700 Eversource customers have lost power after a transformer explosion in Harwich. Most of the customers were in Harwich with nearby towns affected to a lesser extent. The incident happened on Main Street (Route 28) by the Holy Trinity Church. Eversource crews were also working at a substation on Lothrop Avenue. New equipment was being brought in to make repairs.
5 p.m. update: the outage has been reduced to about 1,500 customers.
By 6:30 p.m. only about 250 customers were still without power. By 8:15 p.m. all customers were back on.
An earlier problem with a downed power line on Route 137 in Chatham was not related to the outage and has also been cleared.
