

WELLFLEET – A Funk Bus operated by Cape Destinations caught fire in Wellfleet shortly after noon Saturday. Firefighters responded to Ocean View Drive near White Crest Beach. Flames were pouring from the vehicle when crews arrived. The driver safely evacuated the passengers and tried in vain to use an extinguished on the fire. The road was closed in the area. An adjacent house was evacuated as a precaution. One person was treated for smoke inhalation.
From Wellfleet Fire: At 12:13 PM today, the Wellfleet Fire Department responded to a reported tour bus fire. The driver was able to evacuate the bus passengers safely before the firefighters arrived. The first-arriving crews found a bus that was fully engulfed in flames, with fire burning in the brush approaching a nearby home.
Group three firefighters quickly knocked down the fire and prevented it from spreading to the home. Wellfleet received assistance from Eastham and Orleans Fire Departments. Wellfleet lifeguards assisted with evacuating occupants from the nearby home. One individual was evaluated but was not transported. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it is believed to be accidental in nature. The Wellfleet Fire Department thanks the Wellfleet Police Department, the National Park Service, the DPW, and assisting fire agencies for their support in managing this incident.
