HYANNIS – Cape Cod residents are invited to honor local military veterans and hear firsthand accounts of wartime service during the 9th Annual Veterans Town Hall on Wednesday, November 11, at the Barnstable Adult Community Center in Hyannis.
The event, organized in conjunction with the Cape and Islands Veterans Outreach Center and the Town of Barnstable, will begin with a ceremony honoring veterans at 9:30 a.m., followed immediately by the Veterans Town Hall inside the community center.
This year’s gathering will take place at a new location, the Barnstable Adult Community Center at 825 Falmouth Road in Hyannis.
The Veterans Town Hall will feature a series of 10-minute testimonies from combat veterans, providing an opportunity for those who served to share their personal experiences with the community.
The event is intended to help bridge the gap between veterans and civilians by offering a better understanding of military service, combat experiences and the challenges faced by those who have served in wartime.
Organizers highlight a message from author and journalist Sebastian Junger encouraging communities to bring the experience of war home to the entire nation rather than leaving it solely with those who fought.
The annual gathering also provides an opportunity for residents to recognize the sacrifices made by veterans while hearing their stories in a respectful, supportive environment.
A complimentary buffet brunch will be provided by Hyannis Elks Lodge #1549.
Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP to Barbara-Anne Foley at [email protected].
The event is being held on Veterans Day, the annual federal holiday recognizing the service of men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
