Barnstable Fire Department announces $1.38 million federal SAFER grant award and upcoming public meeting

BARNSTABLE – From Barnstable Fire: The Barnstable Fire Department is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $1,386,845 federal grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Fiscal Year 2025 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant Program.

This significant federal investment will help partially fund the salaries and benefits of six additional career firefighters over a three-year period. The addition of these firefighters will strengthen the department’s ability to maintain adequate staffing, further enhance emergency response capabilities, and better serve the growing needs of the Barnstable Fire District.

The SAFER Grant requires a local financial commitment from the Barnstable Fire District. To inform residents about the grant, its benefits, and the associated costs, the department will host an important public information meeting:
Public Outreach and Informational Session
Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at 7:00 PM
at the Barnstable Fire Station, 3249 Main Street, Barnstable

This informational session will provide residents and taxpayers with an overview of the SAFER Grant, the proposed staffing enhancements, the Fire District’s financial responsibilities, and the anticipated benefits to public safety. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and better understand the proposal before the Special Fire District Meeting which will be held on Thursday November 12, 2026, at 7:00 PM. The meeting will be held at the Mary Pat Flynn Conference Room (in the Old Jail) 3195 Main Street Barnstable
