HYANNIS – From Barnstable Police: The Barnstable Police Department would like to provide an update on the officer who was struck by a motor vehicle on Sunday September 13, 2026 while assisting with pedestrian traffic. Officer Peter Ginnetty, a 19-year veteran, sustained several serious injuries, including multiple broken bones and a significant injury to his right leg. Officer Ginnetty remains positive and will face a long recovery ahead.
We ask that everyone continues to keep Officer Ginnetty and his family in your thoughts during this difficult time. The support shown by the community has been heartfelt and is deeply appreciated. Our priority remains supporting Officer Ginnetty and his family throughout the recovery process.

The alleged driver, Robert Brando Hunt, 43, of Osterville was arrested at the scene and charged with:
• Operating Under the Influence of Liquor – 2nd Offense
• Operating Under the Influence of Liquor with Serious Injury and Negligence
• Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
