HYANNIS – From Barnstable Police: The Barnstable Police Department is warning residents about suspicious emails claiming that MyChart users are eligible to receive a FREE first aid medical kit.
These emails may be phishing attempts designed to steal your personal information.
Scammers may use the MyChart name and branding to make the offer appear legitimate. Be especially cautious if the email comes from a generic Gmail address rather than an official healthcare provider’s domain.
RED FLAGS TO WATCH FOR:
An email sent from an unfamiliar Gmail address.
An offer for a free medical kit that you did not request.
Links asking you to claim an item or confirm personal information.
Urgent language or limited-time offers designed to pressure you into acting quickly.
HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF:
Do not click suspicious links or open unexpected attachments.
Never provide personal, financial, or medical information in response to an unsolicited email.
Do not reply to the sender.
If you have questions about an offer, contact your healthcare provider directly using a verified phone number or official website.
If you clicked a link or submitted information, take steps to secure your accounts and contact your healthcare provider if your medical information may be at risk.
Remember: The appearance of an email does not guarantee it is legitimate. When in doubt, verify independently before taking action.
