New details: Bicyclist critically injured in Mashpee

MASHPEE – On Sunday at approximately 11:12 AM, the Mashpee Police Department responded to the area of 462 Old Barnstable Road for the report of a person down on the ground with an unknown medical emergency. Prior to the officers arrival, Mashpee Dispatch was able to update responding units advising the person down appeared to be the victim of a bicycle accident. Mashpee Police units assisted the Mashpee Fire/Rescue with the victim, a 52-year-old Mashpee man with what appeared to be life threatening injuries to the head area.

After a preliminary investigation it appears the victim was traveling on an electrically powered bicycle in a southwest direction on the walking path on the east side of Old Barnstable Road. The driver appeared to have lost control striking his head on the pavement, causing the injury. The victim was ultimately transported via MedFlight to Beth Israel Deaconess in Boston.
