
WELLFLEET – A bicyclist was reportedly struck and killed by a car in Wellfleet sometime after 10:30 AM Monday. The incident happened at Route 6 and Lieutenant Island Road. CPR was being administered when officials arrived. Traffic delays were likely in the area. The victim was rushed by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital.
Update from Wellfleet Police: On Monday, July 20, 2026, at approximately 10:52 AM, the Wellfleet Police and Fire Departments responded to the area of Route 6 and Lieutenant Island Road for a report of a bicyclist who had been struck by a 2019 Toyota Tundra. The operator of the vehicle remained at the scene.
Upon arrival, first responders provided emergency medical care before transporting the 83-year-old male from Wellfleet to Cape Cod Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The operator of the vehicle, a 37-year-old male from New Hampshire, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
Traffic on Route 6 was heavily delayed in both directions while the crash scene was cleared.
Assisting at the scene were the Truro Police Department, Eastham Police Department, and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office. The Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council Crash Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation.
The name of the deceased party is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
