Updated: Rollover crash closes Route 6 in Wellfleet



WELLFLEET – A reported rollover crash shut down a section of Route 6 in Wellfleet. The crash happened sometime after 6:30 PM Wednesday by Gull Pond Road. A Honda Civic and a Jeep Cherokee collided leaving the Jeep on its roof. Everyone was able to get out of the vehicles but several ambulances were called to the scene to evaluate victims. The crash is under investigation by Wellfleet Police.

From Wellfleet Police: On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at approximately 6:52 PM, the Wellfleet Police and Fire Departments responded to a motor vehicle crash near the intersection of Route 6 and Gull Pond Road.

Upon arrival, responding units observed a 1998 Jeep Cherokee, which had rolled over onto its roof, located in the parking lot of Moby Dick’s Restaurant. The vehicle was operated by an 18-year-old male from Plymouth, MA. A second vehicle, a 2005 Honda Accord, was positioned in the middle of the roadway, and it was operated by a 73-year-old female from Truro, MA. Additionally, a third unoccupied vehicle, a 2023 Chevrolet Equinox parked in the restaurant lot, sustained damage in the crash.

The operator of the Jeep Cherokee, accompanied by two 18-year-old female passengers from Plymouth, MA, and the driver of the Honda Accord, were all transported to Cape Cod Hospital due to undisclosed injuries.

With the assistance of the Truro and Eastham Police Departments, traffic on Route 6 was temporarily diverted. Additionally, the Truro Fire Department provided support at the scene.

The circumstances surrounding this crash are currently under investigation by the Wellfleet Police Department.
