YARMOUTH – The Barnstable County Tech Rescue Team was called to Yarmouth shortly before 3:30 PM Tuesday. According to reports, a worker was stuck in his harness inside the water tank on Buck Island Road.
Shortly before 4 PM, the worker was lowered to the ground and put in an ambulance to be evaluated.
From Yarmouth Fire: At 3:21 PM Tuesday, the Yarnouth Fire Department 911 center received a phone call reporting a cell worker that had a medical event in the Sandy Pond Water Tower at 480 Buck Island Road. Engine 45, which is located at Station 3 right around the corner from the incident, responded first along with Tower 41, Ambulance 54, Car 51 and Car 52.
Engine 45 arrived on scene under the command of Lieutenant Gregg Almonte who was able to size up the scene and determine that the patient was 100′ off the ground inside the water tower. Extra resources were requested and a rope rescue operation was developed. The patient with assistance was able to self-evacuate from the tower. The patient was evaluated and transported to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment.
The Yarmouth Fire Department has been invested in an initiative to train our members in technical rescue due to the increasing demand and the ongoing long-term sewer project. Lt. Almonte graduated from a 4-day Rope Rescue Technician Class which concluded last week.
The Yarnmouth Fire Department would like to thank the Hyannis Fire Department and The Barnstable County Technical Rescue Team for their assistance.
