SANDWICH/BOURNE – The Barnstable County Tech Rescue Team was activated around 3:45 PM after reports that a teenager was buried in sand and unable to get out. The scene was off of Philllps Drive near Scusset Beach. The tech team will reportedly shore up the area around the victim in order to safely extricate him. A MedFlight helicopter was requested to land at the former Hoxie school to standby for the extrication.
About 4:30 PM it was reported the victim had been freed. He was transported by ambulance to the helicopter and flown to an off-Cape trauma center.
From Bourne Police: After nearly an hour of digging, a multi-jurisdictional team of first responders from around the area was able to rescue a male who had become stuck in a hole on the beach that had caved in and buried him above the waist. We are very proud of the coordinated response from local PDs, FDs, MSP, DCR, DPW and MedFlight. The incident happened in Sandwich in the area between Sagamore Beach and Scusset Beach off of Phillips Rd.
CWN will bring you further details as we get them.
