BARNSTABLE – Construction of the new Barnstable Fire Station on Phinney’s Lane continues to make significant progress, with crews completing several major exterior improvements and shifting their attention toward interior work as colder weather approaches.
According to an update from the Barnstable Fire Department, the building is now weathertight, allowing construction to continue inside throughout the fall and winter months.
Among the latest milestones is the installation of the station’s large apparatus bay doors, which will provide access for fire trucks and other emergency vehicles.
Crews have also installed an initial layer of asphalt in one of the parking areas and relocated the construction trailer to accommodate additional site improvements and work in front of the building.
Inside the station, workers continue installing electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
Over the next several weeks, construction crews are expected to continue paving operations and complete additional exterior work, including roofing, siding and trim installation.
Windows and doors will also be installed in the station’s training tower as work progresses on the remaining exterior features.
With winter approaching, the department says construction activity will increasingly focus on the building’s interior, allowing work to continue despite colder temperatures and changing weather conditions.
The new station is designed to provide modern facilities that will improve firefighter health and safety, enhance emergency response capabilities and accommodate the community’s public safety needs for decades to come.
Fire officials say the project represents a significant investment in the future of the Barnstable Fire District and its ability to serve residents.
The department also recognized the work of general contractor W.T. Rich, Context Architecture, the Fire Station Building Committee, the New Fire Station Working Group and the various construction trades involved in the project.
Officials thanked residents and taxpayers of the Barnstable Fire District for their continued support and patience throughout construction.
The department says each completed phase brings the community closer to a modern, more efficient fire station that will support emergency services well into the future.
