…WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM SUNDAY TO 8 PM EST MONDAY…
* WHAT…Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 12 and 17 inches. Winds gusting as high as 30 mph.
* WHERE…Much of Southern New England excluding Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket and Block Island.
* WHEN…From 7 AM Sunday to 8 PM EST Monday.
* IMPACTS…Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Travel could be very difficult to impossible, especially if traveling overnight into the Monday morning commute. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
Persons should consider delaying all travel. Motorists should use extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary.

…COLD WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM THIS EVENING TO 10 AM EST SATURDAY FOR CAPE COD AND THE ISLANDS…
* WHAT…Very cold wind chills as low as 15 below zero expected.
* WHERE…Cape Cod and the Islands.
* WHEN…From 10 PM this evening to 10 AM EST Saturday.
* IMPACTS…Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.
The Town of Barnstable will open Warming Centers at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center on January 23rd and January 24th from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day.
**Due to the forecasted major winter storm, the Town of Barnstable Transfer Station and Recycling Center, located at 45 Flint Street, Marstons Mills, will be temporarily closed beginning Sunday, January 25, 2026 at 12:00 PM through Monday, January 26, 2026. Trash and recycling services are expected to resume on a normal schedule on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, weather permitting.
This closure will allow the Town to reallocate staff and resources to support emergency snow removal and storm response operations, with a focus on keeping roadways clear and safe throughout the storm.
