DENNIS – Members of the Dennis Police Department recently joined fellow law enforcement officers for the annual Pink Patch Project photo, held this year at the historic Lexington Battle Green in recognition of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States.
The annual gathering brings together law enforcement agencies to raise awareness about breast cancer and demonstrate support for individuals and families affected by the disease.
According to the Dennis Police Department, this year’s photo held special significance because of its location at Lexington Battle Green, the site of one of the opening confrontations of the American Revolutionary War on April 19, 1775.
The location provided an opportunity to connect the nation’s history with the importance of community service, unity and support for those facing breast cancer.
The Pink Patch Project is a nationwide public awareness initiative involving law enforcement agencies that wear specially designed pink uniform patches, particularly during October, which is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The patches are intended to promote awareness of breast cancer, encourage conversations about early detection and show support for survivors, patients undergoing treatment and families who have lost loved ones to the disease.
Participating agencies often make commemorative pink patches available to the public, with proceeds supporting breast cancer research, education and related charitable organizations.
The Dennis Police Department said its participation reflects the department’s commitment to supporting those affected by cancer and joining other law enforcement agencies in raising awareness about the disease.
The annual photo also provides an opportunity for officers from different communities to come together in support of a common cause.
