Natural gas leak prompts evacuations, road closures in Harwich

HARWICH – A significant natural gas leak shut down a section of Route 28 and prompted evacuations Saturday morning. A 2 inch main was ruptured in the area of 73 Route 28. As a result of the break an odor of gas was noted in the area. Route 28 was closed and area houses evacuated as a result. National Grid was called to respond to the scene to shut off the gas.

By 10:30 AM, National Grid had shut off the gas and the situation was deemed under control.
