Developing (updated 8:30 AM): Search underway off Nantucket after reports of an aircraft down in the water


NANTUCKET – A U.S. Coast Guard C-144 jet and helicopter are searching an area south of Nantucket after reports that an aircraft may have gone down in the water. Flight controllers reportedly lost contact with the aircraft about 1:45 AM after the pilot reported electrical issues.

The Coast Guard reports they are searching for a Gulfstream aircraft with 6 persons on board after the FAA reported losing contact with the aircraft early Saturday morning.

USCG air & surface crews have launched in search of the aircraft. Updates will be provided here as info becomes available.

USCG further advises the plane was traveling from Bermuda to Boston. Current search area is off the coast of Nantucket. Aircraft is a Gulfstream G100.

Published reports say the aircraft is registered to Latitude Air Ambulance headquartered in Hamilton, Ontario Canada, and there were six people onboard.
